1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“When God has something very great to accomplish for his church, it is His will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayers of His people.”

Jonathan Edwards

The Moravians’ 100-Year Prayer Meeting

In 1727, a spiritual awakening at the Moravian community of Herrnhut, founded by Count Nicolaus Zinzendorf, sparked a continuous prayer vigil known as the “Hundred-Year Prayer Meeting.” Burdened for revival and desperate for the power of God, the Moravians divided into hourly prayer shifts that continued unbroken for over a century. This movement ignited a wave of missionary activity unprecedented for its time, sending hundreds across the globe—from the West Indies to Greenland—decades before the modern Protestant missions movement. Their efforts influenced figures like the Wesleys and William Carey, laying a foundation for evangelical missions worldwide.
