Day 6: The Eternity of God
“Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” – Psalm 90:1–2
We live within the flow of time, but God reigns above it. As 2 Peter 3:8 reminds us, “With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” In Revelation 1:8, He declares, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” the beginning and the end of all time. God Himself has no beginning, and He will never end. “Before the mountains were brought forth… from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
His eternal nature brings a deep sense of peace to our often hectic lives. He does not need to rush, nor does He delay His plans. Nothing can interrupt His perfect timing. As Galatians 4:4 tells us, “When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son.” The eternal God entered into time to redeem those bound by it. Emmanuel. God with us.
“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (James 4:14). Our lives are short and constantly changing. Outside of God, in the vastness of the universe, we are unnoticeable. Yet, because of His eternal nature, our lives gain meaning when connected to Him. His eternal life is now ours! We can find rest in knowing that our lives are held by the One who holds all time in His hands. Every moment, past, present, and future, is already seen and secured by Him.
Let the eternal nature of God calm your heart and give you hope. Ask Him to teach you to “number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom,” just as Psalm 90:12 instructs. Remember, your days may be few, but His mercy is endless, and His promises are forever.
“God dwells in eternity, but time dwells in God. He has already lived all our tomorrows as He has lived all our yesterdays. Because God lives in an everlasting now, He has no past and no future. When time-words occur in the Scriptures, they refer to our time, not to His. Time began in God and will end in Him.” – A.W. Tozer
Prayer:
This day our hearts approve with gladness what our reason can never fully comprehend, even Thine eternity, O Ancient of Days. Art Thou not from everlasting, O Lord, my God, mine Holy One? We worship Thee, the Father Everlasting, whose years shall have no end; and Thee, the love-begotten Son whose goings forth have been ever of old; we also acknowledge and adore Thee, Eternal Spirit, who before the foundation of the world didst live and love in coequal glory with the Father and the Son. Enlarge and purify the mansions of our souls that they may be fit habitations for Thy Spirit, who dost prefer before all temples the upright heart and pure. Amen. – A.W. Tozer

What is one part of your schedule you will place in God’s hand this week, trusting in His timing?
How does knowing God is eternal change the way you see your short time on earth?
